Some easy saxophone songs for beginners…

People often ask us, what are the easy saxophone songs for beginners to learn? Well, we’ve summarised a few of these below, including sheet music for a couple of them to get you started :)

Some of the well known/popular songs we’d recommend for complete beginners to attempt would be Merrily We Roll Along (Mary Had A Little Lamb), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Oh When The Saints Go Marching In. These pieces can all be played quite easily in the key of G major, which is the key we focus on in our Beginners Saxophone Course. They also generally use just 5 notes - G, A, B, C and D (Twinkle Twinkle includes a high E as well) - and all start on the tonic/root of the key, G.

There are some other very popular saxophone songs which are most certainly attainable a bit down the line for people learning saxophone, with some practise and time spent - pieces such as Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, George Michael’s Careless Whisper and The Pink Panther by Henri Mancini, which are all really well known saxophone pieces. These pieces all have a few extra notes and rather more complex rhythms than the somewhat easier pieces mentioned above, but they are definitely some classic and great saxophone songs to learn and work towards!

If you are looking to learn to play the saxophone and need a saxophone tutorial, then look no further than our Barehand Beginners Saxophone Course which you can find here - the course is taught by highly experienced and professional saxophone player Jon Melville, who has performed live around the UK and abroad for many years, as well as teaching numerous pupils over the years.
